This measurement campaign was highly successful and made valuable\n measurements during the heatwave period of 2003.\n\n<br />Over 50 scientists from 7 institutions were involved, using a\ncomprehensive suite of instruments that measured: \nO<sub>3</sub>, CO, NO, NO<sub>2</sub>, C<sub>2</sub>-C<sub>8</sub> hydrocarbons, C<sub>1</sub>-C<sub>4</sub> oxygenated\nhydrocarbons, PAN, Peroxides (Organic and Inorganic), \nOrganic nitrates, OH and HO<sub>2</sub> radicals, Sum of RO<sub>2</sub> + HO<sub>2</sub> radicals, OH chemical \nlifetime, Photolysis frequencies (e.g. j(O<sup>1</sup>D), j(NO<sub>2</sub>), j (HCHO), Aerosol number and size\ndistribution, Aerosol composition, Local meteorology, and 5 and 10 day back trajectories. Many of the instruments \nare also part of the <a href=\"http://badc.nerc.ac.uk/data/ufam/\">Universities Facility for Atmospheric Measurement (UFAM).</a>\n\n<p>\n</p></li><li><b>TORCH 2 </b> <br /> \nThis took place in April and May 2004 at Weybourne Atmospheric Observatory, on the north Norfolk coast.\n<br /> The same complement of instruments was used to sample air with a longer processing time (8-16 hours).\n</li></ul>\n<p>\nData collected for this project can be found in the Polluted Troposphere \n<a href=\"http://badc.nerc.ac.uk/cgi-bin/data_browser/data_browser/badc/polluted-tropo/data\">\ndata directory</a>. In accordance with the \n<a href=\"http://badc.nerc.ac.uk/conditions/polltrop.html\">Polluted Troposphere Data Protocol</a>, \nwhich aims at encouraging rapid dissemination of scientific results while \nsimultaneously protecting the rights of individual scientists, this data is\nnow publicly available. \n</p><p> Several trajectory calculations were performed relating to the TORCH projects and are \nstored in the <a href=\"http://badc.nerc.ac.uk/cgi-bin/data_browser/data_browser/badc/polluted-tropo/data/torch/\">data archive</a>. \nIn order to access the trajectory files it is necessary\nto be registered for access to both polluted troposphere data <strong>and</strong> ECMWF trajectory data.\n\n<a href=\"/cgi-bin/dataset_registration/dataset_info.cgi.pl?datasetid=ecmwftrj\">Apply for access to ECMWF trajectories</a></p>\n\n<p>\nThe data are stored in NASA-Ames <a href=\"http://badc.nerc.ac.uk/help/formats/\">format</a>. the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL), Oxfordshire)</li>\n<li>An archive at the Manchester High-Performance Computing Centre (maintained and updated by Centre for Global Atmospheric Modelling (CGAM) at the University of Reading).</li>\n</ul>\n<p>The reason for holding two separate data archives is to meet the requirements of two distinct groups of atmospheric (and other) scientists. The standard BADC archive will serve the data using formats and utilities that the majority of earth scientists can make use of. The Manchester archive (see the <a href=\"http://www.met.rdg.ac.uk/~paulb/cgam/uera40.html\">CGAM web site</a> for more information), on the other hand, is aimed specifically at users of the modeling resources held on the high-performance computing systems. This data will be mainly used by members of UGAMP (the UK universities Global Atmospheric Modeling Programme).</p>\n\n<p>The datasets are held at the BADC in their original <a href=\"http://badc.nerc.ac.uk/help/formats/grib/\">GRIB format</a>. The data can be accessed via FTP or via our web-interface.</p>\n\n<p>Users interested in regular gridded ERA-40 data should see the information on the <a href=\"http://badc.nerc.ac.uk/data/ecmwf-e40/gridded_data.html\">ERA-40 Regular Gridded Data page</a>.</p>\n\n\n<p>The ECMWF now provides its own GRIB decoding software (GRIBEX) free from the <a href=\"http://www.ecmwf.int/products/data/software/grib.html\">ECMWF software pages</a>. Edition data are validated level 2 products, \r\nwith <a href=\"http://badc.nerc.ac.uk/cgi-bin/data_browser/data_browser/badc/gerb/docs/gerb_quality_docs\">\r\nassessment of quality documentation</a> to support their pedigree. \r\nThe data bears the name Edition denoted by \"EDnn\" in the product \r\nfilename (e.g. \"ED01\" for Edition 1).\r\n<p> \r\nThe GERB-2 data covers March 2004 to May 2007. Gerb-1 data starts April 2007. Further information about data coverage can be found at the \r\n<a href=\"http://ggsps.rl.ac.uk/Released.html\">GERB Ground Segment Processing system website</a>\r\n</p><p>\r\n\r\nLevel 2 ARG Geolocation files are also available for Edition 1 - you should download this product if you download \r\nLevel 2 ARG flux products. <br />\r\n*Please note new geolocation files are produced at intervals, however these \r\nare identical as the geolocation grid remains fixed throughout the Edition \r\nrecord.\r\n</p><p>\r\n\r\n</p><p>Users should be aware that a step change is expected in the Edition 1 GERB record at the point of transition from GERB 2 (METEOSAT-8) to GERB 1 (METEOSAT-9) due to differences between the instruments.
